Dr. Kei Fukami is a Director and Vice-Chair of the International Committee of the JSN. Graduating in March 1993, he joined the Department of Internal Medicine 3 at Kurume University School of Medicine. On April 1, 2002, he became an Assistant in the Division of Nephrology. From January 1, 2004, he studied abroad for two years at the Baker IDI Heart Research Institute in Melbourne. On May 1, 2015, he was appointed Chief Professor of the Division of Nephrology and Director of the Kidney Center at Kurume University Hospital, positions he holds today.
He has received multiple awards, including the Young Investigator Travel Award at the 18th Scientific Meeting of the ISH, the Bayer Research Grant, the CKD Award Poster Award, the Fukuoka Clinical Medicine Research Award, and the Ishibashi Academic Promotion Fund Grant. His research covers diabetic kidney disease, dialysis complications, and Fabry disease.
