Kouichi Tamura is Director of Yokohama City University Medical Center, and Professor and Chair of Department of Medical Science and Cardiorenal Medicine, Yokohama City University Graduate School of Medicine, Yokohama, Japan. He is also Visiting Professor of Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan.
He completed his research training at Institute of Applied Biochemistry, University of Tsukuba (Mentors: Prof. Kazuo Murakami and Prof. Akiyoshi Fukamizu) before staying in Boston to work as a Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Research, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School/Research Fellow for Research Abroad of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) (Mentor: Professor Victor J. Dzau, Harvard Medical School; Dr. Victor J. Dzau is currently President of the National Academy of Medicine, USA).
His current research interests are as follows;
- Elucidation of pathogenetic basis and search for novel therapeutic strategy for cardio-kidney-metabolic diseases based on specific genes, molecules, and mechanisms of action,
- Big data analysis of disease registries, medical databases, and real-world data for cardio-kidney-metabolic diseases, and investigation of the effects of medical-industrial collaboration and ICT/IoT/PHR interventions for cardio-kidney-metabolic diseases,
- Understanding and utilization of healthcare policy economics and comprehensive healthcare system for hospital management and community contribution, and medical innovation.
