Akihiro Fukuda is an Associate Professor and Deputy Chief of the Department of Nephrology at Oita University, where he also serves as Deputy Director of the Blood Purification Center.
He completed his medical training at Miyazaki Medical University before traveling to the United States to work as a Research Fellow at the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on the podocyte biology, especially in recent years, using urinary podocyte markers to search for biomarkers useful in the early stages of glomerular disease and in the assessment of disease activity.
In 2023, he was awarded the Clinical Scientist Award from the Japanese Society of Nephrology.
