Dr. Atsuko Nakatsuka is currently the Lecturer of the Division of Kidney, Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases, Okayama University Hospital, Japan (2019-present). She obtained her Ph.D. thesis on 2012 from Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine and served as Assistant Professor at Okayama University (2012-2019). Her research interests are focused on the molecular mechanisms of obesity- and diabetes-related complications, especially focus on kidney, liver and fat tissues. Notably, she discovered new adipokine, vaspin, and is studying its role in DKD. She received many awards honoring her distinguished research such as Japan Diabetes Society Distinguished Women Scientists Award (2021), Okayama city cultural incentive award (Academic Prize, 2021), Okayama Medical Association Award (2014 and 2012), The Japan Society of Diabetic Complications, Young Investigator Award and 28th Young Investigator Okamoto Award (2013), Academic Award of the Okayama Prefectural Medical Association (2012), and KEYSTONE SYMPOSIA, Diabetes, Barrie Hesp Scholarship (2010).
