Hirotaka Komaba is a Professor in the Department of Nephrology, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Tokai University School of Medicine, appointed in 2024. He received his MD from Kobe University School of Medicine and his PhD from Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine. After joining Tokai University School of Medicine, he spent 2 years at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He is a clinician-scientist with interests in CKD-MBD and the FGF23-Klotho axis, and has authored over 100 publications in KI, CJASN, AJKD, NDT, JCEM, JBMR, Nature Reviews Nephrology, and Cell Metabolism, among others. He received the "Kimoto Award" from the JSDT in 2011 and the "Clinical Scientist Award" from the JSN in 2022. He is a member of the CKD-MBD Guideline Update Working Group of the JSDT and also served on the Steering Committee of the KDIGO Controversies Conference on CKD-MBD held in Madrid in 2023.
