Kumiko Torisu is an associate professor in Department of Integrated Therapy of Chronic Kidney Disease, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. Her current research focuses on polyamines derived from arginine metabolism for anti-aging and autophagy in membrane trafficking. She received M.D. and Ph.D. in Graduate school of Medicine, Kyushu University, in 1998 and 2006, respectively. From 2010 to 2013, she was a postdoctoral fellow under Dr. Toren Finkel (cardiology and aging) at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, USA. There she studied autophagy in vascular endothelial cells (Autophagy regulates endothelial cell processing, maturation and secretion of von Willebrand factor. Nature Medicine, 2013). She is a member of the subcommittee on Basic Research of the Japanese Society of Nephrology and contributes to the promotion of basic research in nephrology.
