Dr. Kusaba is an assistant professor in the Division of Nephrology, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan. He received M.D. degree from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in 1999 and completed a medical residency in Internal Medicine (mainly cardiology and nephrology) for 4 years. After finishing the thesis in the graduate school of medicine, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, he joined the Dr. Benjamin Humphreys Lab, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. After 3 years’ of postdoctoral training in the US, he moved to the current institution and started the research as principal investigator. Current research interest is the molecular biology of proximal tubules under various disease conditions including AKI to CKD transition, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. In clinical research, he is working on the pathophysiology of salt taste disorders under disease conditions including CKD.
