Yuichiro Izumi

Yuichiro Izumi is a nephrologist in Kumamoto University Hospital. He is engaged in treating patients with kidney disease and working for basic research of nephrology as a principal investigator. He graduated from School of Medicine at Kumamoto University in 2002 with an M.D. and was trained as a resident for three years. After receiving Ph.D. at Kumamoto University in 2009, he worked in the Laboratory of Kidney and Electrolyte Metabolism (LKEM) in NHLBI/NIH from 2009 to 2014 as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Maurice B. Burg. He became an assistant professor of the Department of Nephrology, Kumamoto University in 2016. He is in current position from 2020. His research focuses on understanding of renal physiology by investigating the role of hormones such as vasopressin and aldosterone in the regulation of electrolyte metabolism. He also studies how osmotic stress contributes to the physiological function of the kidney.
