Nobuhito Hirawa is Advisor to the President, Yokohama City University Medical Center, Yokohama, Japan. He also serves as Director of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, the Department of Hemodialysis and Apheresis, and the Clinical Education and Training Center. In addition to supervising approximately 70 initial clinical residents each year, he is also responsible for supervising fellows as the director of the internal medicine training program.
He completed his medical training at Yokohama City University Hospital and graduated the Doctorial Degree Program of Graduate School of Medicine, Yokohama City University.
He is interested in the mechanisms of hypertension and organ damage, and has conducted extensive research on glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage associated with hypertension. He was one of the earliest to propose Cerebro-Renal Association through basic and clinical research, and has contributed to the creation of Japanese hypertension treatment guidelines for many years. He was awarded the American Collage of Physician Japan Chapter, Academic Award in 2022 and the Laureate Award in 2023.
